A cup of tea.

October 21, 2015 in notes, tea

Enjoy a moment of simplicity as you sip your tea from this quiet yunomi from Studio Yunomi.

A yunomi is a Japanese cup for everyday tea drinking. Its style is footed, without a handle. A traditional ware, the yunomi has become an art form in itself and is now used as often for drinking tea as for drinking coffee, wine, water or for a quiet moment of contemplation.

There is a relationship that develops naturally between an object made by-hand to be held in-hand. It is the promise of this relationship that forms the work of Studio Yunomi.

A lover of tea, I have long been seeking the ideal cup for sipping Pu'erh, Oolong, Matcha and other favourites. The moment I found this one, I was done.

A lover of tea and meditation, I often combine the two and share this tea meditation with my students.

朝々や茶がむまく成る霧おりる

asa-asa ya cha ga mumaku naru kiri oriru

morning after morning my tea tastes better…

falling mist

— Kobayashi Issa, tea loving Zen poet.
