Herding the Ox is a traditional series of 10 images, known in Ch’an and Zen Buddhism, depicting the stages of enlightenment. Western Zen Master, John Daio Loori wrote an excellent teaching in his book Riding the Ox Home: Stages on the Path of Enlightenment.
