Future tea room

September 13, 2017 in Tea

Future tea room.

This unconventional tea room is by The Tea-Room, a Tokyo-based art collective focused on creating the tea ceremony of the future.

Instead of the usual kakejiku (scroll) on the wall, a light projection is used, creating a more contemporary ambience. In the backgruond, a hanging has a photographic image, rather than traditional art or calligraphy.

As I discover more about the potential of chanoyu (Japanese Tea Ceremony), I am reminded of my art school creations. I created tea houses, without realising what they were. It was these creations, and the ritual that accompanied them, that caught me on to Zen.

All those years ago. Today. No difference. Same heart.
