Silence singing.

ॐ मणि पद्मे हूँ / You are a Vanaprastha who makes silence sing.— Stefan Steib.

A Vanaprastha (Sanskrit: वानप्रस्थ) is a person who is living in the forest as a hermit after partially giving up material desires. Vanaprasthaashram is the third stage of life in the Vedic ashram system, when a person gradually withdraws from the world.

Written to me in 2006, I rediscovered these words from Stefan Steib just last week. Something resonated strongly, reflecting on my life in the forest over the past 8 months.

But one thing here is not true, I do not make the silence sing, the silence makes me sing.

Silence sings me to life.

I am the silence, singing.
