Shikantaza anywhere.

When you don't expect anything and just do it, something will happen there. That is actually shikantaza. – Shunryu Suzuki

Silent sitting, shikantaza can happen anywhere, and at any time. There is no need to wait for the perfect place, the perfect moment.

It is, in essence, a stopping. Stopping running around. Stopping chasing thoughts. Stopping looking forwards to some future that does not exist. Stopping looking back. It is simply stopping and being aware.

I could tell you that you need to learn to sit in perfect zazen posture, or find some quiet place, but it’s not true. Sure, play with those things if you wish, but don’t mistake them for the simple truth that is found in silent sitting.

Stop. Right now, and know that the place is here, and the time is now.

As Suzuki Roshi says, “just do it.”
