The moon woke me up, but none so bright as the star, awakening. – Ando

This week is Rohatsu, a celebration of Buddha’s enlightenment, when he sat in meditation through the night, resulting in his awakening. Zendos arround the world hold annual sesshin, a week of intensive silent retreat.[/ezcol_1half]

The Buddha was enlightened on the 8 December when he looked up at the morning star, (Venus). The brightness of this planet was seen by Buddha from the depths of one week of samadhi.

Rohatsu culminates in an all night sitting, overnight, from 7 to 8 December.

I too will be night sitting zazen throughout the night. Perhaps you’ll join me.[/ezcol_1half_end]
